My daughter got pneumonia whilst we were in China. We took her to hospital where they did an x-ray then put her on antibiotic intravenous drip for 4 half day sessions. Very effective treatment and the total bill was about $46. Some years later, we were in Austria where my wife fell over and injured her chest. She was taken by ambulance to hospital where they did an x-ray and declared nothing wrong. Still in pain and back in Australia, a new x-ray revealed two broken ribs. Total cost of the Austrian experience was about $800. Sharp contrast in cost and effectiveness. The Austrian x-ray facility looked like something out of the 1940's.
